How to keep our loved ones safe & in their own home is a very delicate situation. Most seniors and families are struggling with so many decisions, should you place your parents in a nursing home, or can you actually bring in the proper care or manage yourself.
I have been caring for my mother for many years, and when her health began to rapidly fail, My husband & I decided to move in with her in her familiar surroundings, rather than move her Into our home. For me, a facility was not a consideration, but for many it works just fine.
Having been in & out of nursing homes for rehabs with my mother, I was very knowledgeable and familiar with the program. Unfortunately, they are very short staffed, resulting in poor care with the patients. Certified nursing assistants (CNA’s) bare the responsibility for care, & according to AARP, the ratio of 15 to 1 is average in most facilities. Can you believe only 75 hours of job training is needed for certification, compared to 1500 hours for a hairdresser license.
What happened to our world as we knew it? We will one day grow old & have the need for care, we have to try to better the system of health care and help as many seniors as we can. Look around, you will find an abundant number of elders, completely alone, without friends or family to help. If all of us made just one phone call, or found a way to volunteer to be there for them, can you only imagine the satisfaction and fulfillment you can experience?
I continue to do the work..pushing through the systems, fighting for those without a voice nor the energy to find hope…I believe we can all make a difference.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about this subject…I can be available for consultations. Also, we would love to invite seniors to take advantage of our pickup & delivery service to our dental practice.
