States with the highest prevalence of periodontitis
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s study, there are 10 states that show approximately 50% of the residents have Periodontal (Gum) disease. The two highest states are New Mexico and Hawaii. Nationally, the average is around 45% of all residents with the lowest being Utah (38%) and New Hampshire (41%). So brushing and flossing at least twice a day is highly recommended by the American Academy of Periodontology.
The rates for Periodontal Disease correspond with the rates for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease.
